About Our Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Program
Would you like more energy, to be more vibrant and feel like you are more alive?
We start by obtaining a history and brief physical examination. Women will need a PAP and mammogram or provide copies from their doctor.
Men will need a PSA and prostate exam or provide copies from their doctor.
Depending on age and complaints, baseline blood work will be ordered. We may able to use recent blood work from your doctor.
The various replacement hormones will then be discussed as well as their mode of administration. Hormones may be given as pills, sublingual triturates, creams and pellets that are inserted under the skin.
Not all but most of these will need to be obtained from a compounding pharmacy. This is not your local drug store but a pharmacist that actually makes the bio-identical hormone for each and every patient.
You will be billed by the pharmacist and may be reimbursed by your insurance. Not all the medications are prescription. Melatonin, Pregnenolone and DHEA are available over the counter but are not sustained release.
Hormone pellets are a popular and convenient way to receive some of the hormones and are inserted under the skin of the hip just below the belt line. They last 3-4 months in women and up to 6 months in men.
After about a month of therapy lab tests will need to be repeated and depending on the results and your response, adjustments will be made.
